September has come and gone and I feel as though I have achieved pretty much nothing. That’s technically untrue – it was a busy month but that meant there wasn’t a lot of sewing time. I did go to the Great British Sewing Bee Live and spend a sizeable amount of money though so I guess that still counts! I do have to admit that as the nights draw in and the winter weather begins to loom, I am really struggling with my sewjo and I just can’t seem to settle to anything. For me this is quite normal every year, even though it sucks, and I suspect that this winter will be a tough one (I get SAD and it is rubbish folks – get some daylight every day and eat your 5 a day #protip) so for the rest of this month I plan on making no plans. I have some blogs to catch up on writing, some projects to finish and lots of fabric to make plans for. I intend on this being a positive and hopefully healthy month!
September in review
I made none of the things I intended to. I finished some pyjama bottoms I had planned a day or 2 ago and the top is mostly there so I will try to finish these this week. I didn’t work on the dress I needed to because I think it’s going to end up being donated anyway and I’ve made no progress on my trousers (again). I also haven’t done anything for my #sewingthescene entry – the deadline is in a few days and I don’t have anything prepared so I guess I’m sitting this one out. The project is still on the to-do list though, but is probably more appropriate for spring than winter.
Let me know if you have any great tips for improving your winter sewjo!
I hear you!. I had planned on making so many things last month and I only finished a couple of the projects that I planned. Work gets in the way for me 😦 I plan on making pyjamas too for this month.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I’ve not finished a thing yet and we’re almost halfway through the month but I do feel mentally rested at least!

Slow going here too. I’ve been working on a pair of Capri trousers, but my enthusiasm has plummeted since I’ve realized that I probably won’t get to wear them this year now – they are way too summery. I’ve found the main driver for keeping me sewing is anticipation for wearing the finished garment. I think I’m going to try to make sure I don’t make out of season clothes from now on…..

I feel you. I have been sorting through my fabric to try and find some inspiration…and I am inspired, but oh, the time and energy are lacking. So silly, because much like exercise (which I am worse at than sewing) I know I feel better if I make time for sewing. I like your no plans positivity though! Right here with you!! x

My summer was a bit like that. And i really hate the reduced light in the winter. Sometimes I find taking a sewing break and cleaning up my sewing corner so it’s nice for when I have a little mojo helps.

I really struggle with sewjo this time of year too and generally knit instead. I have managed to get a bit of sewing done over the last couple of weeks by only trying to do a little bit each night. It’s been much easier to get the motivation to just sew a couple of seams.
